The Biomaterials Days is organized in collaboration with Tampere University of Technolgy, Finland.

The theme of the ScanBalt Forum will for the first time be in the area of environmental science. This reflects the intention of ScanBalt BioRegion to include environmental issues on its agenda. The Forum entitled “Restoration of the Baltic Sea; Limitations and possibilities” has the objective to gather scientist, managers and government officials to disseminate experiences made and discuss the possibilities and limitations of active restoration approaches within the Baltic Sea Region. It is our hope that the Forum will stimulate to collaborations on local, regional, national and international level on projects dealing with the restoration of the Baltic Sea. The program is based on a number of invited speakers. Contributions in the form of poster presentations are strongly encouraged. There will also be a panel discussion and an excursion to Hagby Harbour where some local restoration projects will be presented. In addition to this, the ScanBalt Academy is organizing a half-day session on the subject “Ecology of the Baltic Sea”

The Biomaterials Days are organized by professor Kristina Nilsson-Ekdahl, University of Kalmar and professor Heimo Ylänen, Tampere University of Technology. The program will contain plenary lectures by renowned scientists in the field, presentations of biomaterial research groups from Finland and Sweden and a number of short presentations by young scientists. Additional contributions in the form of poster presentations are strongly encouraged.

Finally, the program also contains two workshops within the Bridge-BSR project. The themes of these workshops are “New ways of Bridging SMEs and Academia in the ScanBalt BioRegion” and “Commercialisation of Results – How to Create Value in Life Sciences”.
