Scholarships to attend ScanBalt Forum 2009
Dear delegate of ScanBalt Forum 2009 from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland or Russia,As you may know the 8th ScanBalt Forum will be held in Kalmar, Sweden, October 7- 9, 2009. The meetings will be organized by the University of Kalmar under the auspices of ScanBalt BioRegion. ScanBalt Forum will be organized with the support of four co-organizers: the Regional Council in Kalmar County, the City of Kalmar, the Swedish Institute for the Marine Environment and the Swedish River Basin District Authority for the Southern Baltic Sea.
Through the generous support by the Baltic Sea Unit, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), we will be able to award scholarships to participants from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland or Russia to make participation possible. The scholarships will include the registration fee plus travel and accommodation costs up to a maximum of 600 €. Included in the registration fee are lunches, coffees/teas, a welcome buffet on Wednesday evening and the Congress dinner at Kalmar Castle on Thursday evening.
The meeting will start Wednesday afternoon with the ScanBalt Academy Session on the subject “Ecology of the Baltic Sea”. This session is organized by Professor Kaare Norum, Chairman of ScanBalt Academy. The theme of the ScanBalt Forum is for the first time in the area of environmental science. It is entitled “Restoration of the Baltic Sea; Limitations and possibilities” and has the objective to gather scientist, managers and government officials to disseminate experiences made and discuss the possibilities and limitations of active restoration approaches within the Baltic Sea Region.
It is our hope that the Forum will stimulate to collaborations on all levels on projects dealing with the restoration of the Baltic Sea. The program is based on a number of invited speakers. Contributions in the form of poster presentations are strongly encouraged. There will also be a panel discussion and an excursion to Hagby Harbour where local restoration projects will be presented.
