THE NEW NATIONAL COMPETENCE CLUSTER HEALTHBIO IN FINLAND

HealthBIO is a national network covering the five major Finnish regional bioclusters within the new Centre of Expertise Programme 2007-2013.
 
The HealthBIO work program focuses on health-related biotechnology and associated business areas.

By initiating development projects reflecting the business and research needs the cluster aims at
·        Contribute to the regional differentiation
·        Internationalize the entire innovation process
·        Create new business and new concepts
·        Improve the accessibility to and exploitation of top level expertise in business applications
·        Support the growth and internationalization of life science companies
 
The approximately 120 health biotech companies in Finland are active in the fields of drug discovery and development, diagnostics, biomaterials and bioinformatics. The majority of these are young and innovative SME’s and startups, looking avidly for international partners and cooperation. Geographically, the main part of the Finnish biotech industry is located in the regions of the university cities Helsinki, Turku, Tampere, Kuopio and Oulu.
