The BioCon Valley encircles the northeastern part of Mecklenburg-Western Pommerania. Herein the university townships Greifswald and Rostock developed productive research institutes working on the application of modern biotechnology in different areas: plant and animal breeding, human and veterinary medicine and medical technology, foodstuffs processing and environmental technology, especially in the marine area.


The land of Mecklenburg-Western Pommerania devotes special attention to the settlement and development of technology oriented companies in the direct neighborhood of these research institutes. The government supports the concept of the region by attractive support and financing programs, construction of biotechnology centers, and establishment of new and efficient structures of technology transfer.
