ORDER ONLINE HERE!

The publication "Intellectual Property and Bioscience - Compendium of Working Papers from the ScanBalt IPKN Project" is a collection of the key messages and thoughts emanating from the first two years of the Scanbalt Intellectual Property Knowledge Network project. The messages are present as working papers covering diverse thoughts with intellectual property, innovation, and bioscience as the common thread. The main objective is to give the reader sufficient input to facilitate discussions on how intellectual property and intellectual property management are core to the utilization of bioscience for the creation of wealth and welfare.

Bioscience is an industry built on the creation and utilization of knowledge, and therefore it is important to understand the basic concepts and strategies required to manage this knowledge as intellectual assets and properties in order to derive value. These working papers attempt to increase the curiosity of the reader and provide a basic understanding of the complex process of generating value from the bioscience industry through intellectual property and knowledge-based business development perspective.

The Intellectual Property Knowledge Network March 2005 - March 2007

Vision
The objective of the ScanBalt Intellectual Property Knowledge Network (IPKN) is to facilitate regional cooperation and coordination of research and education in the field of intellectual property (IP) management in order to boost supply and demand as well as accessibility of IP knowledge throughout the ScanBalt BioRegion. The ScanBalt IPKN will act both to strengthen regional IP expertise - in bioscience IPR construction, IP management, and its implications on bioscience research and development - and broaden general IP awareness and competencies in how to use IP to create value in the innovation process - from idea creation and protection to commercialisation and business development.

Activities
The set-up of ScanBalt IPKN is supported by the European Union FP6 as a Specific Support Action in the LifeSciHealth framework. The funding will cover a period of two years, from March 1, 2005, and entails network structuring and competency development activities. The ScanBalt IPKN will put emphasis on enhancing existing local activities and creating regional synergy effects in the field of IP education and competence building.

Initial activities include:
- An extended mapping of supply and demand of biotech IP management strategies in the Nordic-Baltic Sea region; in order to establish a platform that will allow the ScanBalt IPKN to reach out to its target group.
- A first major competency development and networking activity was the Biotech IP Focus of CIP Forum 2005: Managing Intellectual Property as Core Business in Gothenburg, May 22-25, 2005. The event brought to the ScanBalt region professionals from around the world to discuss current issues within intellectual property, with conference sessions directed both towards individuals with considerable insights into IP management and those with only basic knowledge of IP matters, yet with interest to learn more. To read more about the conference see www.cipforum.org

Please contact ScanBalt IPKN for more information about reduced conference fee offers for participants from the ScanBalt BioRegion.
