NorFA grant to ScanBalt stem cell research network

The purpose of the project is a preparatory meeting towards the establishment of a ScanBalt stem cell research network and the creation of a platform for future funding. The application has been accepted and awarded a total amount of NOK 60.000

The preparatory meeting will gather experts from all the ScanBalt countries to discuss and organize a future framework of cooperation. The participants represent leading research environments and cover the main fields within ’adult’ and embryonic stem cell research. The expected results of the planning meeting include:

· The preparation of a NorFA Network application for submission May 2004

· A thorough discussion of interests and needs of the different research centres in the ScanBalt BioRegion

· A formulation of the scope and focus areas of future collaboration, research training courses and exchange of researchers and students

· A discussion of additional funding possibilities (FP 6) and future applications.

BioTech Forum 2003 26 to 28 November in Stockholm

The Karolinska Institute, together with the Swedish Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, is organising BioTech Forum 2003, to take place from 26 to 28 November in Stockholm, Sweden. The conference will focus on the science upon which the biotechnology sector will develop and progress, and will include special topics such as autoimmune diseases, informatics, metabolic diseases and proteomics. As well as dealing with issues related to pharmaceuticals and medicine, ethics, and patents, BioTech Forum will also provide access to venture capital, business partnerships, science parks, biotechnology clusters and university programmes.
