BIOMOBIL

The Centre of Biosafety Research and Molecular Biomedicine (BioMoBiL) was founded in 2003 by research groups from University of Gdańsk and Medical University of Gdańsk. It is coordinated by Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology.

The BioMoBiL Centre is an initiative to support the interdisciplinary research of the academic community of the Tri-City, which is an agglomeration of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot. The main objective of the Centre is to create a region which will provide expertise in biosafety and molecular biomedicine. Moreover it will strengthen cooperation between the academic centres, local industry and healthcare organizations.

The staff of the Centre includes scientists recognized as national experts in several fields as followed:

  • Plant Protection and Biotechnology
  • Molecular Biology and Molecular Enzymology
  • Cell Biology and Molecular Virology
  • Genetics and Microbiology
  • Marine Biotechnology
  • Pharmaceutical Biotechnology
Ongoing projects performed in the Centre are supported by grants from various sources such as Polish State Commitee for Scientific Research, Foundation for Polish Science, Polish-US Skłodowska-Curie Fund, Framework Programmes of the European Union, the European Molecular Biology Organization and others. The projects will promote awareness of safe biotechnologies orientated at diagnosis and treatment of humans, animals, plants and the environment. This is the reason that the Centre willingly wants to create infrastructure for commercialization of scientific results and implementation of technology, which will be supported by cooperation between the Centre and the Pomeranian Science and Technology Park (PSPT).

Besides, there are several business oriented organizations participating in the BioMoBiL project. One of them is the Centre of Technology Transfer (CTT) which was established in 1997.

The most important objectives of the association are: organization and realization of technology transfer processes, inspiration and support of economic initiatives, assistance in the establishment of international scientific and economic cooperation, establishment of data bases etc.
