    ScanBalt Forum - Turku, Finland
    The 3rd ScanBalt Forum attracted participants from all of the 11 countries of the metaregion with representatives from the political, business and academic communities. The Forum was a tremendous success and demonstrates both how far ScanBalt has come but also the opportunities for the future. Read more here.

    ScanBalt Statutes Signed – ScanBalt now a not for profit membership based organisation.
    The ScanBalt Forum witnessed the further development of ScanBalt by the signing of the ScanBalt statutes. This means that ScanBalt is now officially recognised as an independent organisation and can better represent the metaregion and its members. Read more here.

    ScanBalt Forum – Presentations
    The ScanBalt Forum had a varied program of speakers and subjects, ranging from overviews of the role of ScanBalt to specific presentations of networking projects. As well as status reports on various aspects of the metaregion (such as venture financing) there was also a diverse scientific content. Most of the presentations can now be viewed on line here.

    Alexandra Rynio Reports on Her Recent Novo-ScanBalt Master Scholarship Visit to Novo Nordisk, Denmark.
    Alexandra Rynios (from Gdansk, Poland), in connection with her Novo-ScanBalt Master Scholarship, visited and worked in the laboratories at Novo Nordisk in Denmark for two weeks. After a very sucessful trip she has written an interesting and entertaining report describing both her scientific research and experiences in Copenhagen. Read more here.

    The ScanBalt Marine Biotechnology Network – Update
    One of the many ScanBalt projects is the proposed marine biotechnology network. This article presents more information about the network and its objectives.

    The ScanBalt Environmental Network – Update
    ScanBalt and Øresund Environment Academy / Øresund Science Region has in collaboration launched a new network within the network of networks. The new network is lead by Øresund Environment Academy and is going to focus on multidisciplinary projects on Bio-technology and Environment. The first project within the new network was launched at the 3rd ScanBalt Forum in Turku, Finland. Read more here.

    ScanBalt has launched on its site two new databases, the education and investment factfiles.
    The investment factfile has over 80 venture capital and public funding sources in
    a searchable database, a useful tool for companies seeking investment for any stage of business development.Use the investment factfile by clicking here



    The education factfile has over 200 research institutes and universities which have teaching and research programmes in the lifesciences field. The education factfile is intended for students and researchers who wish to study and work within the ScanBalt metaregion. Click here to use the education factfile.


    Nordic Science Parks Conference, 27-28 October, Malmö, Sweden.
    The conference will examine those questions likely to be vital to science parks in the coming years. This will include which research areas are most likely to yield new enterprises and where will front edge research in these areas take place? Delegates will include professionals from science parks, incubators, and universities. Read more here.

    Estonian Genome Foundation, 5th International Gene Forum 2004, 17-18 Sept, Tartu, Estonian.
    This major event in the Baltics provides an excellent opportunity to establish and renew contacts in the region. Gene Forum 2004 focuses on interdisciplinary areas within genomics and genetics of complex diseases, genetic epidemiology, pharmacogenomics and business, population genetics, human genetics and bioethics.

    POMCERT – Pomeranian Centre for Environmental Research and Technology.
    A new centre for joint work on research and innovation programmes within the environmental sector in the Pomeranian region. POMCERT has been created by three Gdansk universities and intends to play an important role in applying for EU funds.
